Pilgrim's Sanctum Walkthrough

Pilgrim’s Sanctum is the first dungeon in Isle of Reveries and the entire combat-puzzle thesis of the Steam demo. Ethervil’s Let’s Try labels it “Level 1: Pilgrim’s Sanctum” and names the boss Fermata. Xbox achievement lists also include “Complete the Pilgrim’s Sanctum,” so the name is not a community nickname. This page is for players who are already inside. For the overworld approach, use the demo walkthrough.

Sanctum is a handheld-style temple: discrete rooms, a dungeon-wide idea, and a key ability you carry out the door. That ability is the fairy’s copy-and-spawn. You will not have it in the first few chambers. The dungeon teaches it.

Tool timeline inside the temple

  1. Jump and lantern — reach lamps and low ledges. If a room is simply dark, light it before you invent a more complicated theory.
  2. Sword — clear bats, blobs, and anything that charges in a straight line. Do not tank; i-frames are short.
  3. Lift (Power Glove in community timestamps) — pick up small objects, set them on switches, throw them at crystal-like targets if the room presents them.
  4. Fairy companion — the rest of the dungeon is this. Copy blocks and shooters. Spawn them on the problem.

If you picked up copy and still feel lost, you are using it like a grenade. Use it like a duplicating workshop. The copy-spawn guide is the general grammar; below are Sanctum-specific sentences.

Room types you will actually see

Weighted doors. A floor switch needs mass. If no block spawned in the room, the block is behind you. Copy it, return, park the copy on the switch, and walk through while it sits there.

Shooter lines. Gargoyle or statue turrets define a lane. Sometimes you must dodge. Sometimes you must steal the turret and fire it at a switch, a torch, or an enemy behind a fence. A public comment from the official account told a stuck player to copy the arrow-shooter in the previous room. That hint is the Sanctum meta.

Light rows. Frog lantern plus copied torches. Light the objects the door cares about; extra braziers are flavor.

Pits and water. Lief cannot swim. Jump covers small gaps. Wider water wants a copied platform or a thrown object, not heroism.

Combat gauntlets. Some rooms are just fights. Clear them. A later Kickstarter playtest described other dungeons as “open-ended combat gauntlets,” so Sanctum’s mix of puzzles and fights is the house style, not a one-off.

January 2025 demo notes mentioned secret rooms with treasures and a dungeon-wide mechanic pass. If you find a cracked wall or a dark alcove after you have copy, spend a minute. Secrets are optional for beating Fermata and useful for extra hearts. Maximum health is a listed Xbox achievement in the full game, so heart hunting is a long-term habit.

Fermata

Treat Fermata as a midterm. Preview coverage said the fight requires every item and skill from the demo in some phase. A working approach:

  • Watch one full pattern before you commit to damage.
  • Jump the slam or dash you cannot block.
  • When the boss presents a puzzle overlay (unlit target, far switch, spawned minion), switch HUD slots instead of mashing sword.
  • Copy a shooter if the arena gives you one; do not stand in the lane you just created.
  • After a hit, wait. Short i-frames plus greed equals a wipe.

If the boss “eats” mashed inputs, update the demo. desertcucco’s January 2025 notes specifically mention boss-battle fixes when players spam many buttons at once.

Leaving the temple

Beating Fermata is not the same as understanding copy. Before you close the demo, go back to one early switch room and solve it again using only a copied block. That five-minute drill pays off in Overgrown Shrine, Timelocked Villa, and every later temple named in trailers.

Map the dungeon in your head like a plus-shape or a winding snake — whatever your seed generated in terms of screen flow — and remember which rooms were “copy sources.” Those source rooms are more valuable than treasure chests.
